Synopsis: The slimy slug, the sensuous snake, the darting bat: just reading about these creatures make us squirm, shudder, or recoil in revulsion and fear. They are some of the Living Things We Love To Hate. No matter how important they are to our ecosystem, some of us never get over our fears of common animals and insects. But are our fears justified, or simply rooted in a lack of understanding? Based on Des Kennedy's popular book of the same name and filmed on his lush homestead on Denman Island, in British Columbia Canada, LIVING THINGS WE LOVE TO HATE takes a light-hearted and scientific look at some of nature's 'creepier' creatures, exploring the roots of our cultural attitudes towards them, from the Book of Genesis right up to modern day horror-movies. Synopsis: While surfing the net, Vera and George Gara came across a document containing a list of the possessions stolen from Vera’s family by the Nazis during the Second World War. The inventory included a valuable painting by Albin Eggar-Lienz entitled The Scythe Sharpener. The Ottawa couple’s emotional journey in search of the painting is documented in RESTITUTION. The Gara’s aren’t alone. During the war, thousands of priceless paintings, sculptures and other works of art were looted by invading Nazi armies. Many were taken from Jewish families, who, like both George and Vera’s, perished in concentration camps. Only in recent years have these efforts to restore these art treasures to their rightful owners begun in earnest. Key Broadcast License:
